As part of their contribution towards the development of the environment, the National Tour Guide Association (NTGA) recently conducted a cleansing exercise (set-setal) around the Senegambia and B.B Hotel areas.
Speaking to The Independent during the exercises, Mr. Mbalow, the secretary general of NTGA disclosed that their main aim is to improve on the practice of "set-setal" in order to contribute towards the improvement of the tourism industry in the Gambia. According to Mbalow, they want to encourage the tourists to return again and again to The Gambian as tourists.
In raising out their constraints Mr. Mbalow said that they have difficulties with some hotel owners, whom he said are yet to know the significant rolls played by him and his team. He also called on other tourism sectors in the country to emulate them, adding that it will make it easy fort the Department of State for Tourism to improve tourism in the country.
Demba Joof a bird specialist and a member of NTGA emphasised on the importance of the "set-setal", saying that it does not only stop at cleaning our environment and in increasing tourist in the Gambia. "It also goes as far as to promote and sustain our own health," he said.
Joof disclosed that Gambia comes out with a tour guide with a difference, adding that from his little experience in the tourist industry both in Mali and Senegal, he will not hesitate to commend The Gambia as the best in the sub-region.
